No charges will be filed against a man who shot and killed two men who entered his Bennington home last week.

According to Bryan County Sheriff Ken Golden, Rodney Steven Andrews, 55, acted in self defense when he shot Gary Michael Robison, 66, and Bradley Wayne Rader, 35.

The shootings happened Thursday afternoon at a home on Highway 70 east of Bennington. According to the sheriff’s office a woman said she had been assaulted earlier in that day by Andrews, and later, Robison, Rader and a juvenile went to the house to confront Andrews.

Deputies said Andrews shot Robison and Rader after they entered the home. Robison died at the the scene and Rader was pronounced dead at the hospital. The juvenile was not injured.

According to Golden, the investigation revealed that the incident was a “home invasion.” No weapons were reported to have been used by the men, although a Mauser rifle and a small bludgeon were found inside a red truck, according to an affidavit.

Andrews, however, was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and unlawful use of a police radio. Deputies said two methamphetamine labs were found at the home. Andrews remains in jail on $100,000 bond.

In other crimes, Michael Linn Conner, 25, and Mattie Rhea Conner, 22 , Durant, have been charged with possessing methamphetamine and marijuana with intent to distribute. They were arrested last week at a home in the 1400 block of West Arkansas Street following an investigation by the Durant Police Department and the Bryan County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force. They also were charged with felony child neglect because a child at the home was exposed to child activity, court papers state.

While in the commission of a felony and someone dies does it not become murder.
