Dorothy Guymon, a resident of Cartwright, OK, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the age of 95. She was born in Elk City, OK on October 30, 1917, to Charles & Ella Spitzer. Dorothy married Efton Guymon in 1934 in Elkhart, Kansas.

Dorothy was a long time devoted member of Platter Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was an active member in the Road Runners, Families Feeding Families, Senior Luncheons/Breakfasts, and loved helping in the yearly Vacation Bible School programs. After retiring from being a Nurse’s Aide at TMC, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, and spending quality time with all her family & friends. She was lovingly known to all as “ Grandma Guymon”.

Dorothy is survived by sons, Arnold Guymon and wife Charlene of Cartwright, Nickey Guymon and wife Brenda of Durant, and daughter LaVaughn Allen of Denison, TX, her brother Robert Spitzer of Sayre, OK, Grandchildren: David Guymon and wife Sonja of Cartwright, Dianna Bates & husband Ricky of Calera, Greg Guymon and wife Angie of Colbert, Kim LeMoult and husband Eric of Alexandria, VA, Garrett Guymon of Denison, TX, Mike Allen of Denison, TX, and Kelley Skelton and husband Michael of Pilot Point, TX, Great-Grandchildren: Chad Guymon, Nikki Sneed & husband Brad, Derrick Bates and wife Angie, Daniel Bates, Bryar Skelton, Lawson & Sawyer Guymon, Great-great Grandchildren: Payton & Jackie Guymon, Wyatt & Jaylon Sneed, Cadie & Rhylar Bates, & Samantha Bates & Jordan Large. Dorothy is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, & nephews as well as her extended church family whom she loved dearly.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Ella Spitzer, husband Efton Guymon, sisters Irene Patterson, Fern Montgomery, brothers Tom, Doyle and, Dan Spitzer, son-in-law Kenneth Allen, and infant granddaughter Robin Elaine Allen.

Family visitation will be Sunday, March 17, from 3pm to 6pm at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, at 10am at Platter Baptist Church, officiated by Bro. John Heath. Pallbearers will be David, Chad, Greg & Garrett Guymon, Brad Sneed, Ricky, Derrick & Daniel Bates, Michael Skelton, Mike Allen and Eric LeMoult.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Platter Baptist Church - Building Fund, P.O. Box 1078, Platter, OK 74753.
