The Lady Lions improved to 8-2 on the season and 3-1 in district play. The Lions are still undefeated in the district at 4-0 and moved to 6-3 on the season. Durant will play another pair of road games at Chickasha Friday before returning home the following Tuesday to host Ada. The game against Ada will be the last regular-season home game, and there will be only one more game, April 23 at Lawton Mac, before the postseason begins.
Girls
Durant led 4-0 at the half and out-shot Noble 33-7 for the game. Crystal Guilbeau led the scoring with three goals in the game. The first goal was on a tremendous header with Dylan Delozier crossing the ball high in the air from the right corner for the assist. Guilbeau scored her second goal taking the ball three-quarters of the field and scoring unassisted on a tremendous individual play past the keeper. Her third goal was in the second half and once again resultedfrom great individual play.
Ashlyn Davenport scored twice in the game, once with a header off of a Cheyenne Caraway corner kick and the second goal was a 45-yard shot just into the top of the goal. Taryn Ritter scored with a volley kick with Brittany Coxsey assisting. Cheyenne Caraway scored in the second half on a shot into the corner of the net with Kendra Boydstun assisting, and Barbara Flury scored on a 30-yard shot with Guilbeau assisting.
The game was highlighted with excellent defensive effort by Cheyenne Diggs and Brittany Coxsey. But the defensive highlight was at the end of the first half when freshman keeper Riley Richards made a sliding save, taking out the Noble forward as they both went for the ball. Richards started her first game and punctuated that with her first career shutout. The Lady Lions will travel to Chickasha Friday night for a very important district game against the Chicks.
Boys
The win marked the 50th career win for head coach John Wilmoth. Durant had a tremendous defensive effort, limiting the Bears to just two shots on goal as keepers Phoenix Ortlip and Matthew Shirey combined for the shutout.
Durant’s first goal came around 20 minutes into the first half when Nic Alvarez assisted Cole Herron. With about 9:01 left in the half, Nate Crawford got a cross to Hunter Murphree for the first of Murphree’s three goals on the night.
Durant built a 3-0 lead right before the half as Murphree’s second goal was assisted by Nathan Hart. The final dagger came eight minutes into the second half when Murphree completed the hat trick unassisted. The Lions finished with 14 shots on goal.
