Joan was born Monday, July 12, 1937, in Sandersville, Ga. to William Henry and Ellie (McAlister) Johnson. She was owner and operator of Rodgers Tools and Kennels. She enjoyed arts, crafts, sewing, antiques, jewelry and her dogs. Joan loved to go to flea markets and antique dealers; she had an eye for jewelry. She also loved to cook for her family, kids and grandkids. Joan liked to go dancing and loved country music. She loved her grandkids and especially loved holidays. She enjoyed her children and having a large family.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Jack Summerville and Walter Rodgers; daughter Cindy Hicks; grandchildren Jason Davis, Virgil Don Summerville and Holly Simon; sister Janie Black; and brothers Henry Hart and Dana Jones.
She is survived by her sons Donnie Summerville of Dallas, Texas, Randy Summerville and wife Wanda of Mead, Scottie Summerville and wife Sebrina of Durant and Kelly Summerville and wife Janna of Mead; daughters Debbie Davis and husband Ancel of Boswell, Texas, Susie Summerville of Durant and Judy Green and husband Duane of Hugo; sister Lois Purez of Dallas, Texas; brothers Jim Hart and Grady Jones of Portland, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. and many other relatives and friends.
Family hour will be held today from 2-3 p.m. at Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, Durant, Oklahoma.
Donnie Summerville, Randy Summerville, Kelly Summerville, Scottie Summerville, Paul Freeman, Scottie Wayne, Christopher Summerville and Ethan Summerville will serve as honorary pallbearers.
