Manuel Gregoria Fumero, a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the age of 77 years 8 months and 11 days. He was born in Havana, Cuba on Saturday, May 25, 1935 to Luis and Dolores (Moreno) Fumero. Manuel married Naomi Lavin in Havana, Cuba on Friday, July 21, 1961. In 1965, he accepted the Lord as his Savior. He served his country as a volunteer enlisted for three and half years and fought in the Bay of Pigs Invasion (Playa Giron). In 1966, at the prompting of his father-in-law he agreed to immigrate to the United States in search of religious freedom, freedom of speech and a better future for his family. Upon his arrival in the United States, he worked in various mechanical equipment industry until his retirement in 2003.
Manuel was a member of the Victory Life Church in Durant, Oklahoma and dedicated 6 years of his service to the Hands of Hope Food Ministry.
Mr. Fumero is survived by his wife, Naomi Fumero of the home; daughter, Debbie Tramel and husband Dennis of Durant, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Makenzee and Madelynn Castanon of Durant, Oklahoma and Alayna Tramel of Durant, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Vivian Conley and husband Paul of Durant, Oklahoma; niece, Katie Hefner of Durant, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Julia Lavin of Covina, California; brother-in-law, Moses Lavin and wife Lourdes of Covina, California; nephew, Richard and Maribel Lavin and their daughter, Sofia of California and Robert and Jane Lavin and their daughters, Madison and Emely from California; family from Cuba; sisters, Louisa Ventura Fumero; her children, Dennis A. Ventura and Yamila Ventura and Clara Fumero and her huband Rolando Valienete and their children, Rolando Valienete, Jr. of Miami, Florida, Carlos-Valienete and Amado Valienete; brother, Luis Fumero and wife Maria; their children, Nelson and sister, Mercedes Fumero.
Mr. Fumero was preceded in death by his parents, Luis Fumero and Dolores Moreno; aunt, Zoila Torres; godfather, Juan Torres.
Family Hour will be from 7-8:00 PM Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A Funeral Service in his honor will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Victory Life Church in Durant with Pastor Lee Armstrong and Pastor Robby Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Calera.
