Surrounded by her family and long-time caregivers, Patricia June Byrd Cobb passed on Friday January 21, 2022, at the age of 91. She was born November 5, 1930, in Ardmore to Elbert Wayne Byrd and Clara Holt Byrd and became elder sister to Elbert Wayne Byrd, II—whom, in an early demonstration of her presence, she dubbed “Pete” upon first meeting him, the name he still goes by today. An educator herself, she was daughter to a public school educator, sister to a public school administrator, wife to a public school educator and administrator, mother to two public school educators and administrators, and mother-in-law to a public school educator. Her dedication to public service, her keen intellect, and her sensitivities and insights into others made her a quiet but powerful presence in the lives of all those close to her.

Twylia Smith Bohannan went to the loving arms of her Savior on January 7, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Twylia was born June 12, 1938, in Kemp, OK. Her parents were Albert “Ab” Porter Waitman and Willie Marie Washer. She attended Kemp High School and graduated in 1956. Twylia played basketball for the Kemp Tigers and had many fond memories of her classmates. She looked forward to the annual school reunion and catching up with friends. As one of seven children, there was never a dull moment!

Funeral services for Ella Byrd Reirdon Brown, age 79, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at West Oaks Funeral Home chapel with Bradley Edge and Chris Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park with Chris Brown, James McMahan, Jake Morrill, Landon Burke, Steve Littlefield, and Kevin Brewer serving as pallbearers. Jett Morrill, Dorsey Reirdon, Joe Reirdon, Henry Woodruff, and Joe Taylor will serve as honorary pall bearers. Casey McMahan, Jacob Landers, and Phil “Buddy” Woodruff will serve as heavenly pallbearers. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Buddie Lou Horn was born in Durant, OK to Elijah Moses “Bud” Wyatt and Rena Gammill Wyatt. Buddie Lou graduated from Durant High School in 1949. She then continued her education on at Southeastern State University graduating with a teaching degree in 1953. Her first teaching job was near Monroe, OK where she met the love of her life James E. Horn. Buddie and James were then married at her Aunt’s house in Van Nuys, CA on June 5, 1954. Buddie and James had a short teaching stint and lived in Buffalo, KS from 1956 to 1958. In 1958, Buddie and James took the brave move to sunny California and settled down in La Puente ,CA. They were both teachers in the Hudson School District which became the Hacienda La Puente USD. Buddie was a home-economics teacher at Newton Jr High, Fairgrove Jr. High, and Grandview Jr. High until her retirement in 1988.

Pamela Kaye West, 62, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Alliance Health in Durant, Oklahoma. Pam was born on July 14, 1959 in Kenefic, Oklahoma to Woody and Doris (Bookout) West. She spent the past 25 years of her working career doing maintenance at Murray State College. Pam has called Johnston County home for the past 30 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed diamond painting, arts and crafts and spending time with her family.
