Durant boys 5A runner-up in state powerlifting

Durant edged rival McAlester but came up just short in the overall Class 5A standings, finishing as powerlifting state runner-up in the recent state finals held in El Reno. The Lions tallied 46 team points, wrapping up only behind state champ Grove’s 59 tally, while slipping past McAlester by a point after being bested by the Buffaloes in regional competition.

DHS soccer sweeps Atoka, back home Friday

Both Durant soccer squads recorded victories over Atoka while the Lady Lions dropped three decisions against powerful tournament opponents to wrap up the pre-Spring Break portion of the schedule. The Lady Lions blanked Atoka, 7-0, but found the going tough in the prestigious Collinsville Tournament in dropping a 4-1 verdict to Oologah, 1-0 against Metro Christian and 5-1 versus Noble in 60-minute contests.

Bruins blank Rock Creek in unbeaten week

Ninth-ranked Caddo blasted county rival Rock Creek and also bested a pair of other Class A state contenders during a strong week of baseball action. The Bruins blanked Rock Creek, 11-0, in the initial game of the week and then headed to western Oklahoma to stop 10th rated Arapaho-Butler in a 7-1 win before toppling 14th ranked Hydro-Eakly, 7-2 while upping their record to 7-1 on the season.

For a pair of Caddo High School senior athletes going on to the next level will literally be just like being at home as both are headed down the road to continue their stellar careers at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Lions notch two wins during busy Spring Break

Even though they didn’t have any district games last week it was still an extremely busy Spring Break for the Durant Lion baseball team in winning two of five contests. Most of the action occurred in the Southeast Shootout festival event in McCurtain County where Coach J.W.

Lions drop narrow verdicts to Tahlequah

Rain played havoc with the end of the week after the Durant Lions dropped a pair of narrow district baseball decisions to Tahlequah. The Lions fell 4-1 in a nail biter at home to start the two-game set before a 3-0 loss in the second game in spite of solid pitching efforts.

SE softball back on track with 5-game streak

A massive five-win week in league action put the Southeastern Savage Storm softball team right back in the thick of the Great American Conference race. The Savage Storm smacked rival East Central twice (10-0 and 7-5) early in the week and then rode that momentum to a solid three-game sweep of visiting Henderson State.

DHS girls 2nd, boys 3rd in track season opener

The Durant High School track and field season finally got underway last week with the Lady Lions taking second and the Lions third in final team standings at the Marietta Invitational. In the girls’ division, the only higher finishing team was Plainview, while the Lions checked in just behind Plainview and Sulphur on the boys’ side.

Silo sweeps Kingston in district showdowns

Over the last several years the Kingston Redskins have virtually ruled the 3A baseball district slate, but in 2024, there may just be a new king on the block. Perennial power Silo made the move to Class 3A this season for the first time and took an early step ahead in the race for the District 3A-8 title with a sweep of the Redskins in district play last week.
