Kids are so fascinated by how things grow. First planting with something that looks dead, a seed, and then watching it grow into a plant that changes daily. Kids learn a lot from gardening, said Tommie M. James, Family & Consumer Science and 4-H Extension Educator for Bryan County. It teaches a sense of responsibility and accomplishment. There is nothing better than eating fresh produce picked from your own garden. Gardening promotes environmental stewardship and provides opportunities to learn about science, nutrition and health. Gardening also provides an opportunity for a child to spend one on one time with a family member or with the whole family.
