Washington Irving held the annual Hoop Shoot Contest in conjunction with the Elks Lodge. More than 300 students participated in the contest held between Nov 29 and Dec 2. After everyone had participated, Aliya Hamilton and Juan Tavera came away as the contest winners. Brooklyn Foryan Lewis and Rocco Miller placed second in each division. WI winners each received a new basketball, certificate of achievement, and a new WI T-shirt. WI’s runner ups received a new basketball as well, compliments of Principal Gary Canada. The county wide competition will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Durant Middle School.
