Bryan County Oklahoma Home & Community Education met for their monthly OHCE Executive Meeting and Holiday Program on Wednesday, December 6 at the Donald Reynold Community Center & Library, Durant with 14 members and two guests present.

The drawing of the Bryan County OHCE Quilt Raffle Scholarships fundraiser was held. The winner of the Oklahoma-themed queen size quilt was Jana Crawford. Each year, the Bryan County OHCE gives two $700 scholarships to two county high school seniors or adults to assist with college tuition or continuing educational endeavors. This year’s OHCE scholarship recipients are Juan Montes and Bryleigh Pligreen, both Durant High School Seniors. A scholarship ceremony was held back in May. The Bryan County OHCE would like to thank all the businesses and individuals who made donations toward a quilt raffle ticket.

Each block of the Oklahomathemed quilt was created by Bryan County OHCE members and one youth, a granddaughter of a member. The twenty-two quilt blocks consisted of symbols of our great of Oklahoma. Each member used their own talent to create the quilt blocks, for example, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, appliqued, painted and crayon coloring techniques.

This month, OHCE members donated 64 non-perishable food items for the annual OHCE Food Drive. The donated food was delivered to a local church food pantry. In November, 18 coats were donated to R.S.V.P. Each month, OHCE members continue to donate nonperishable foods and toiletry items delivered to Community Blessing Boxes located in Durant and Bennington.

OHCE members enjoyed a holiday party with delicious finger foods and played Bingo.

The Bryan County OHCE meets the first Wednesday of each month, 10 a.m. Please contact the Bryan County OHCE Extension Office for the month’s meeting location at (580) 924-5312. The public is always welcome to attend.
