OKLAHOMA CITY - After falling out the top spot in the Class 3A slow pitch state rankings early in the season, the Caddo Lady Bruins had a proverbial chip on their shoulder. That definitely did not spell good things for the rest of 3A in the attempt to dethrone the two-time state champions.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Facing the proverbial gauntlet of the top three teams in Class 4A on the same day, the surging Silo Lady Rebels seemed undeterred in the slow pitch state tournament at Hall of Fame Stadium last week.

After seven years at the helm, Southeastern head baseball coach Zach Crabtree announced his resignation last week in order to pursue opportunities at his high school alma mater at Colbert. Athletic director Keith Baxter pointed to the success of Crabtree, who was just the fourth head coach in the history of the program when he took over the reins in 2017. He followed in the success of coaching legends Mike Metheny, Don “Doc” Parham and Bloomer Sullivan.

In Class 5A regional track action last week, the Durant High track and field team rode several sensational performances and qualified 12 individuals and five relay teams for the state meet this weekend at Western Heights.

A dramatic late rally by Durant turned back Booker T. Washington but the Lion baseball team saw its season end with back-to-back losses to powerful Tahlequah in the Class 5A regional tournament.

Even with the move to Class 3A this season, the Silo Rebels punched their ticket for the spring state baseball tournament for the 22nd straight year with a dominant sweep of Oklahoma Christian School in Super Regional action last week.

Silo and Calera each moved on in the state baseball playoffs while Caddo’s season came to an end just short of the state tournament. Making its Class 3A postseason debut, Silo rode stellar pitching to three straight shutouts while claiming the regional championship.

Leave it to a senior to provide the walk off heroics against an arch rival on Senior Day. Cameron Cromer did just that on Saturday for Southeastern as his final hit for the Savage Storm was a seventh inning solo home run over the right field wall that gave the hosts a 3-2 win over East Central.

Dramatic finishes were the story for Rock Creek as the Lady Mustangs rode a pair of walk off hits from Macey Weger to victories on the way to the slow pitch regional title and trip to the Class 2A state tournament for the first time since 2017.

A solid district sweep of Tulsa Edison to wrap up the regular season secured the Durant Lions the fifth seed out of District 5A-4 in the Class 5A state baseball playoffs that begin this week. With the 4-1 and 12-2 victories, the Lions improved their record to 17-16 on the season, their first winning record in a regular season since 2017.
