Justin Boone was elected Bryan County District No. 2 Commissioner in the June 18 primary election, defeating Ricky Simmons by 64.54 percent.

Boone received 535 votes compared to 294 for Simmons, according to election returns released by the Bryan County Election Board.

Both are Republicans and a Democrat did not file so Boone will take the oath of office in January. Longtime current District No. 2 Commissioner Tony Simmons did not file for reelection. Ricky Simmons and Tony Simmons are brothers.

In a social media post, Boone said, “Thank you to everyone that supported me along the way. We did it.”

Lacy Allred was elected Bryan County Clerk, receiving 69.79 percent, 1,250 votes wile Elizabeth Phelps received 541 votes.

Allred is a current county clerk deputy. Tammy Reynolds, who currently holds the office, did not file for reelection. The primary also settles this election and Allred will take office in January.

“I want to say, thank you,” Allred said, in a social media post. “This has been an amazing journey. I am humbled by the results and will do my best to serve Bryan County with dedication.”

Phelps thanked Bryan County.

“Although the election wasn’t in my favor, I am thankful for the experience and the friendships I made,” she said, in a social media post.

Calera voters turned down a proposition to allow the town council to appoint the clerk/treasurer, which is an elected office, by 58.88 percent, 116 votes, while 81 ballots were cast for it.

J. Brian Bingham won the Republican primary for Corporation Commissioner. In Bryan County, he received 56.29 percent compared to 29.48 percent for Justin Hornback and 14.28 percent for Russell Ray.

Statewide, Bingham received 53.42 percent, according to the Oklahoma Election Board.

He will face Democrat Harold Spradling and Libertarian Chad Williams in the November 5 general election.
