A Bokchito woman was killed when her all terrain vehicle overturned in a roping arena, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Thirty-six-year-old Cinnamon Mullens died at the scene of the 12:27 p.m. accident Sunday at 656 Dover Road about three miles west of Bokchito.

According to OHP, Mullens was driving a 2020 Can Am and pulling a roping dummy in a private roping arena. Her husband was riding a horse and attempting to rope the dummy and when Mullens looked back to watch her husband, the ATV struck fencing panels and overturned on the driver’s side.

Mullens, who was not wearing a seat belt, fell out of the ATV which then landed on top of her, the report stated. A passenger, an eight-monthold boy, was taken to Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas, for a medical evaluation. OHP said he was properly secured in a child car seat.

Trooper Josh Harrington investigated the accident with assistance by Trooper Jerrid Hobbie. Bryan County EMS and Bokchito police and fire departments assisted at the scene.

A celebration of life service for Mullens will be at 11 a.m. March 4 at Durant Church of Christ. Brown’s Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.

In other emergency calls, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was asked to investigate the death of an Achille police officer at the Achille Volunteer Fire Department Station on Friday. There was no foul play in the death of 53-year-old Ricky Milner, and a family visitation was held for him on Wednesday at Gordon Funeral Home in Durant. Other details regarding the funeral were not available at press time Tuesday.

OHP investigated a motorcycle crash on Sunday.

Fifty-one-year-old Brian Bond of Durant was injured when he crashed his Yamaha Rekluse motorcycle at about 5:48 p.m. on a private dirt bike track at a Lone Oak Road home approximately one mile north of Durant city limits, OHP said.

Bond was taken by Bryan County EMS to Texoma Medical Center to be treated for wrist and ankle injuries. He was in stable condition at the time of the OHP report.

According to OHP, Bond attempted to make a jump on the motorcycle and lost control when the bike came down. He went over the front the motorcycle and landed on his back.

Unsafe speed for the road condition was cited in Trooper Jerrid Hobbie’s report as the cause of the crash. Bond was wearing a helmet and also clothed in full body protective gear.

Bryan County EMS and the Durant Fire Department assisted at the scene.
