Points were at a premium for both Calera and Silo girls’ basketball teams as each saw its season end in the area playoff round last weekend.

Calera’s Lady Bulldogs ran into an offensive roadblock against the massive height of top-ranked Dale in a 46-22 Class 2A Area Championship setback in Chickasha. They were unable to bounce back a day later, coming up on the short end of a 31-29 decision to sixth-rated Vanoss.

Silo, meanwhile, got off to a solid start, but a cold shooting stretch ended up being costly in a 49-38 loss at the hands of seventh-ranked Adair in the Class 3A Area Round at Wilburton.

Calera closed the season with a 25-4 record while Silo finished at 1713.

Calera

The 12th ranked Lady Bulldogs were neck-and-neck with powerhouse Dale for two quarters, battling to a 12-12 halftime deadlock in a lowscoring slugfest.

Dale, however, found its offensive rhythm in the final two stanzas as Calera continued to sputter a bit with the Lady Pirates pushing to a 2817 edge after three quarters before a closing 18-5 flurry in the fourth.

Carlaysia Brown and Emma Daniel pumped in six points apiece to lead the Lady Bulldog offensive charge. Kenzie Condor contributed five, Macy Strahan scored three and Jesslyn O’Dell added two.

Saturday’s consolation finals against Vanoss saw Calera get off to a little better start as Condor posted seven points in the initial stanza to spur a 10-5 lead. The Lady Wolves however answered with a 10-4 burst of their own in the second frame to carry a 15-14 advantage to the halftime locker room.

While scoring was much more even in each quarter after intermission, Vanoss once again notched a 16-15 edge over the final two stanzas to record the victory and punch its state ticket.

Condor paced Calera scoring with seven points while Strahan tossed in a pair of three pointers to finish with six. Taylynn Conder returned to the lineup and contributed five, Brown notched four, Daniel had three with Amariah McLaughlin and Kaysun Thralls scoring two apiece.

Silo

The Lady Rebels only allowed one field goal in the opening quarter on the way to a 9-3 lead but saw that advantage disappear during a big Lady Warrior run in the second stanza.

Adair caught fire with a trio of three pointers to outscore Silo by a 14-6 margin in that frame and carried a 17-15 cushion to the halftime break.

The second half was more of the same as the Lady Warriors nailed four more three pointers while beginning to pull away and extend the lead to 33-24 heading to the final quarter.

Silo put together its best scoring period in the fourth, notching 14 points, but was unable to make up any ground down the stretch.

Freshman Kostina Tubby sank four three pointers and tallied a team-high 15 points for Silo. Kynleigh Pierce posted nine, Cache Atwood pitched in five, Avery Beauchamp had four, Makayla Clark added three and Ryleigh Pierce ended with two points.
